At the C.I.K. the following doctoral thesis resulted from this project: “Systematic Approach for Cost Efficient Design and Planning with Additive Manifacturing“ by Christian-Friedrich Lindemann, 06.10.2017.


Subject of the project was the development of a system for estimating the economic benefit in companies. In order to be able to implement such a systematics, it requires the production of cost models in particular for the different additive manufacturing processes available on the market. In order to provide a comparability, it requires as first step the analysis of the factors of influence as well as the efforts for the standardization of important machine parameters. All results should be transferred to an IT system for easier applicability to guarantee a simple and correct application of the system. On the basis of these results and as an interface between the two projects, a procedure for component selection for different industries and business models was also developed. It was developed on the basis of the knowledge gained and will enable industrial companies to independently identify components that are suitable for the economic use of additive manufacturing processes.


The aim of the project was the extension and optimization of the framework for cost calculation developed in CoA²MPLy with regard to a general comparability of different methods with each other. The DMRC was thus enabled to support industrial companies in estimating the profitability of the use of the technology in the company and thus to contribute to the acceptance and dissemination of the technologies. This is supported by the creation of an IT system for precise cost analysis.
